In the qualification round, athletes shoot 60 shots to advance to the finals. Positioned 10 metres away from the target, athletes aim with specialised air rifles, demonstrating impeccable control and concentration shooting down their 10\u2019s that are the size of a pencil dot on a paper. The finals feature 2 series of 5 shots before entering the single-shot elimination process, culminating in a thrilling battle for the gold medal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

GALIABOVITCH FIRES FIRST SHOT!<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Competition began yesterday for the Australian Shooting Team with Elena Galiabovitch competing in the 10m Air Pistol Women\u2019s event on day 1 of competition at the Chateauroux Shooting Centre.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The first women\u2019s event on the Paris 2024 Olympic Shooting program was contested in hot and humid conditions, with the 10m range at spectator capacity. With 1 hour and 15 minutes the allocated time in the event, Galiabovitch ran the clock down, taking her 60th<\/sup> and final shot with just 97 seconds to go.         <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Of her performance, Galiabovitch said, \u201cI really enjoyed the competition. I was the first Aussie from the shooting team to compete and I felt the support of the whole team, and from everyone back home. I was also very fortunate to have my mum watching on in the stands.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Shooting 564 in qualification and finishing in 37th<\/sup> place with the top 8 progressing to the final, Galiabovitch said, \u201cI gave it my all and although the outcome was clearly not good enough to progress to the final tomorrow, there were a lot of good takeaways for me.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The atmosphere on the range was excellent and the competition ball is now rolling. Let\u2019s go Team Australia!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Veronika Major of Hungary was the top qualifier shooting a score of 582. The cut off score to make the final was 577.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Galiabovitch will contest her second event on 2 August where she will compete in the 25m Pistol competition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
